Experience Digital
InView, the leader in vision correction is pleased to introduce another industry first, the DigitalVision® Exam.
This revolutionary new process is the only system that provides patients a personalized assessment of their vision with a 25 times greater resolution than the existing conventional exam. The result is a more exact measurement and improved visual outcomes achieved through vision correction surgery.
This technology was developed over a decade of work by the vision correction leaders at InView, along with researchers from Harvard, MIT and the Schepens Eye Institute. InView patients are the first in the country to experience this industry changing technology, designed to replace the conventional exam that forces patients to guess between a series of test lenses.
What to Expect During a DigitalVision Exam
The technicians, staff and doctors of InView are here to answer any questions you have throughout this process to make you as comfortable as possible. Generally, the tests will occur in the order in which they are listed below however, additional tests may be added to meet your specific optical needs.
- Auto-Refractor and Topography Measurement
Following registration, one of our technicians will greet you and show you to the first test station. You will be seated at the workstation and will place your chin in a chin rest and be instructed on when to hold your eyes wide open. During this test, you will see a series of bright lights. It is important that your eyes remain open during this test. Should you inadvertently blink; the technician will simply repeat the test. This test automatically captures and estimates your prescription, corneal shape and pupil size, all of which will be important in determining how best to optimize your vision, through the DigitalVision Exam. These measurements will be used as a starting point for your exam, which will be refined during the exam process.
- Retinal Imaging
This test provides a large image of the back of your eye, or the retina. The image can be taken without having to dilate your pupils, an uncomfortable and inconvenient procedure done with the conventional eye exam. The technician will gently position your eye against the camera eye port to capture the clearest image. The image is then taken and recorded digitally to document any changes in the back of your eye and uncover any early signs of illness that can impact your vision.
- Multipoint Refraction
This test is similar to the Interwave test that you may have experienced during your last visit to InView. It measures the required prescription at multiple locations within the eye. You will be asked to comfortably place your head in front of the lens. The technician then aligns the eye with the joystick. Once the test begins, you will be asked to line up a dot of light in the middle of a target using a joystick, much like a video game. The end result of this test is a subjective correction profile of your eye.
- Intra-Ocular Pressure Test
Typically known as a glaucoma test, this procedure measures the pressure inside of your eye. During this procedure, your eye will be numbed with eye drops and an instrument called a tono pen will be gently used to measure your ocular pressure
- DigitalVision Analyzer
Next, you will experience a series of tests that allow you the ability to refine your vision beyond the measurements gathered so far. This test involves the DigitalVision Analyzer, which is a workstation that houses the high powered computer and a remote viewport where you will view a series of different images during your exam. All of the measurements taken so far during this exam have electronically been integrated into the computer within the DigitalVision System. The technician will first position your head so that you will easily be able to view the images in the viewport in front of the exam chair.
You will then be given what looks like a game controller. With this controller, the technician will instruct you to use just 3 buttons. By tapping the left button with your left index finger and then the right with the right index finger, you will be able to adjust the clarity of the images in the viewport. Once the images are the way you want them, you will tap the button on the top of the controller to save your measurements.
During the series of tests, you will see a variety of images such as eye charts, lines, and lifestyle images. By tapping the right or left buttons on the controller, you will have the chance to provide input on what you see and how to optimize your vision. These tests will measure your vision during the day, and in low light, dusk or night conditions. The tests will analyze each eye individually and then both together.
To conclude the exam, you will be presented with 2 real life images either side by side or one at a time with your DigitalVision correction. This process allows you to see and compare how much better the DigitalVision correction is compared to how you are currently seeing.
Additional tests may be done to detect unique issues with your eyes or vision. This will be determined by the technician or doctor during your exam.
- Doctor Exam and Review of Results
Your InView Surgeon or Optometrist will then review all of your test results with you and discuss the best treatment options available to you to achieve optimal vision.
